Musical plays and theatre performances are slowly becoming popular in the Philippines. This is also the reason why some locally produced music plays are being recognized by a large number of audiences nowadays.
One of the most anticipated and most decorated local musical play in the country is Rak of Aegis. Produced by the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA), the musical features the hit songs of the popular band, Aegis.
The first run of Rak of Aegis in 2014 was supported by audiences, because of the concept that uses jukebox songs in a classy musical play. The act sings Aegis songs such as “Halik,” “Basang-basa sa Ulan,” and “Sinta” which make the production more relatable to Filipinos from all walks of life.
Since the success of the first run, Rak of Aegis continues to make reruns and new seasons and batch of artists. Some of the popular name who graced the musical are Aicelle Santos, Jerald Napoles, Myke Solomon (as the director), Isay Alvarez, Kim Molina, Pepe Herrera, and Robert Seña.
The last run of the said musical was in 2019. Although PETA announced that the musical will be returning in 2020, due to the pandemic, they have yet to announce more details about the rerun including the new bunch of actors to give life to some iconic roles of the play.
