Although the animation industry in the Philippines is not as huge compared to other countries, there are still Filipino animators who prove that the Filipinos can also excel in this field. The following are some famous Filipino animators who showed the world that the Philippines is home to great artists.
He is a famous Filipino artist who worked for several huge animation studios in the world. He first worked as a programmer and effects animator for Warner Digital Studios before being an effects supervisor for Disney. Some of his notable works are for the animated movies Chicken Little, Bolt, and Tangled.
Ronnie del Carmen
He is a well-decorated animator, story supervisor, and director for Disney Pixar’s animated movies. He was a graduate of Fine Arts from University of Santo Tomas and started working for Pixar in 2000. He was involved in award-winning movies, such as Finding Nemo, Academy Award nominee One Man Band, Oscar awardee Ratatouille, Up, and Inside Out.
Gini Santos Cruz
Also from Pixar, Virginia “Gini” Cruz is a Filipino animator based in San Francisco, USA. She worked for Disney’s popular animated movies, such as Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Bug’s Life, The Incredibles, and worked with Ronnie del Carmen for Ratatouille and Finding Nemo.
Gini was also a graduate of Fine Arts from UST and was accepted in Pixar in 1996 after submitting her short feature called The Eclipse.
Bobby Pontillas works for different animations studios in America. He was an animator for several Disney classics such as Frozen, Moana, Tangled, Zootopia, and Big Hero 6. He also worked for 20th Century Fox Animation Company for the movies Ice Age: Continental Drift, and Rio.
Another Filipino who works for some notable Disney animated movies is Josie Trinidad. She worked for some of the famous and award-winning movies for kids, such as Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph, Princess and the Frog, Tangled, and Ralph Breaks the Internet.
