THE MEAL DEAL: If you feel adventurous and want to get away from the usual bulalo-or-Italian Tagaytay fare, try Taj authentic Indian restaurant – the only authentic Indian cuisine in the area. Taj is situated right along the national highway, around 300 meters past the zoo. Numerous roadside banners pinpoint the exact location; plus, the distinct lotus bud-shaped lamps atop the restaurant roof are hard not to miss. Aside from the flavorful food, Taj also offers free Wi-Fi for diners. You can enjoy your favorite Taj dishes any time of the day or night since the restaurant is open 24 hours.

CUISINE: Indian

BITE FOR BUCK: To experience the richness and complexity of Indian cuisine with a view, be prepared to shell out P300 to P500 for meals to be shared between family and friends.

GOTTA TRY: Authentic Indian bestsellers include the mutton biryani (long grain basmati rice mixed with Indian spices, cashew, raisin and tender mutton cubes); mutton masala (mutton stew of Indian spices and vegetables), chicken kebab (ground chicken grilled on skewers), chicken tikka (moist chicken cubes marinated in spices and yoghurt then grilled in the tandoor [clay oven]).

Taj is so thoughtful to have not forgotten vegetarian diners with a wide selection of meat-free dishes: vegetable curry; vegetable biryani; vegetable samosa (vegetable pies); yellow, black and mixed dal (legume soup); eggplant barta; aloo bindi (okra-potato in gravy); aloo gobhi matar (potato, cauliflower & green peas in gravy); and the bindi do pyaza (stir fried Okra in Indian spices). Balance the strong Indian flavors with a refreshing glass of sweet lassi (yoghurt shake), or a steaming cup of chai (milk tea).

COMMENTS / SUGGESTIONS / VIOLENT REACTIONS: Keep up the great accommodating service! No complaints so far.
