Whenever people talk about travel, food will inevitably come up in the conversation. It's just such an overwhelming gastronomic experience to be able to try out the different flavor palettes that other countries might have. Even in the simplest and most common of restaurants such as McDonald's, you will be able to try out dishes that are catered to the country's taste.

About a week ago, I came back from Hong Kong and I must say, the food was UNFORGETTABLE! From the start of the trip all the way to the end, here is a chronological photo blog of my HK food experience.

Airplane food (PAL)

This might not count as HK food but I love the meals they serve on airplanes! Something about the way it is packaged and that it comes with an appetizer, fruits and dessert just makes my mouth water. Just so you know, I had two! And yes, you can do that, just ask the pretty stewardesses nicely. 


Pasiano's Pizza - The Godfather

Now we are talking really good HK-based grub! This is Paisano's Pizza and it'll give any pizza chain in Manila a run for it's money. The pizzas are huge, around 20+ inches (the biggest Yellow Cab pizza is just 18 inches). But aside from that, it also tastes great! Think of it as a cross between the old Domino's pizza and an S&R pizza. Sprinkle some pepper, chili flakes and Tabasco and voila -- you have the ultimate pizza! Hopefully someone tries to bring this to Manila one of these days, or maybe I should do it myself?


Hip Katsu - Bento Box

Tired from shopping in Harbour Plaza Mall, we spontaneously dropped into the nearest resto which was Hip Katsu. It kind of had the vibe of Omakase, and I was just too hungry to think about taking pictures of the place which was really nice and err... hip! Their Bento Box was good but nothing that I wouldn't be able to find in Manila. Their miso soup however was perfect! And yes, I can taste the difference between miso soups.

Shady Bar in Lang Kwai Fong - 20 Shots!

Ah yes, our first full night out and we had to look for a cheap place to load up! We found a shady little bar in a corner of Lan Kwai Fong that served ten shots for 200HKD! Plus, the bartender was Filipino so he gave us an extra ten shots! Two minutes and ten dizzying shots later and this is how I looked...




Ebeneezer - Chiken Beryani

After those ten shots, we headed over to the supposed 'Mister Kabab' of Hong Kong. The place is called Ebeneezer and their specialty is that Chicken Beryani in the photo. To be honest, I love the Chelokabab in Mister Kabab but their Beryani is no match for Ebeneezer's! Especially after a night out drinking, I think the alcohol in our taste buds made the food taste even better.


Ozone - Specialty Cocktail

Ozone is the bar in the penthouse of the Ritz Carlton. It costs P50,000 a night to stay in their cheapest room so visiting their bar is the closest thing I'm going to get to staying in the hotel. It was also no surprise that each drink cost around P600 so I ended up taking just one drink which was their specialty cocktail. It was alright but there was too much ice for a P600 drink! Not worth it at all! Hmph.

Ovolo Apartment - Their free breakfast!

It was only on the day I had to leave HK that I was able to catch the breakfast in our apartment. I'm a big fan of breakfast in hotels and apartments so I was ready to rumble with the buffet. Unfortunately, all they had were muffins and yogurt! :( It was such a sad experience thinking I would get to eat a full breakfast meal only to see some really small muffins and bland looking yogurt. Then again, the muffins were surprisingly good! Haha! So I guess it wasn't that bad.

Additionally, there was this carinderia-type noodle house near Granville road which was probably the best meal I had in Hong Kong. I was just so into the food that I forgot to take some pictures. It was cheap, the food was awesome and I came away as satisfied as ever.

Overall, I think my Hong Kong trip was successful and memorable and I have to thank the food for playing a huge role in that. Cheers to food! :D
