The Darkest Hour isn't very long, but it feels long. It's a problem of both character and plotting. The characters in the film can't even be described as clich??s, because even clich??s are more well-defined than this. They stumble around making every poor decision one can make, surviving out of sheer dumb luck. The film just doesn't care about its plot. It's all a directionless mess, held together only with the strength of contrivance. The film mostly seems to be an excuse to show off a bunch of static green screen images. The filmmaking as a whole follows in this trend, with the film seemingly trying to do everything to make things less exciting.
