Last February 2 and 3, the Teresa Yuchengco auditorium of the De La Salle University was awash with glowing stage lights and booming speakers to match the equally intense performance of the La Salle Dance Company. For its seventh year of heart-stopping dance moves, Danz Dish 7 was nothing but an impressive display of talent, charisma, and all-out energy.

Let's put it this way, every cheesy dance movie you've ever seen doesn't compare (at the least) to what it's like experiencing a live, in-your-face, dance show. In every film about fancy footwork, we're made to believe that a gorgeous brunette with hip-hop abs coupled with the brooding and unwilling hero (hewn from an equally impressive muscular system that makes us believe he hit puberty at 7) makes for a Western drama that is centered on only two things: their talent, and of course, their love life.

Watching Danz Dish has proved otherwise: talent goes beyond simply meandering around a stage with a cropped shirt and a nice booty, but it's also the product of hard work, and above all, team work. As a company comprised of over sixty students and alumni from DLSU, it's not at all surprising that a show could go from all out expressionism to hip-hop in a matter of minutes. From Step Up to Center Stage, a movie doesn't exactly express how much dance means to a dancer-- albeit a love life presented to millions on screen, in real life, it's a way of living.

Boasting a full house on both nights of the performance, the LSDC dancers rocked it out to a screaming auditorium full of their friends, family, and onlookers like the Juice.ph team. Most impressive was their integration of various skill sets, busting out moves that until last weekend, I believed were only reserved to pre-pubescent Asian gymnasts. Using ballet, contemporary dance and hip-hop, LSDC-Street, LSDC-Contemporary and the LSDC alumni group, Im*pulse, presented an all-out performance that should have lasted more than two days.

Yup, the girls and boys of LSDC are as talented as they are good looking-- so if it's the gym you've been sweating out these past few weeks in anticipation of your summer beach trip, then you've got the wrong diet plan going for you. The abs are enviable, the legs are toned, and under stage lights, it definitely takes more than a little willpower to not enroll in a dance class nearest you once the curtains are drawn for the final time.

With choreography that can only be equaled to the amount of hours these students spent practicing (plus balancing college duties at the same time), it really is no surprise that Danz Dish 7 was a superb performance. Looking forward to next year's cake topper, these kids are definitely out to take us all for a ride!
