Juice 50

The ultimate list of things to do, eat, drink, buy and try in and out of the metro

21. Your Alternative Night Out Planner

MONDAY
The high school reunion turned drunk jam sesh: Sing Along Mondays at Casa Nami

What used to be the worst day of the week is definitely turning into one of the best! Yes, Rockeoke nights at Mag:Net café have been resurrected at our city’s favorite surf pub, and are wilder and more competitive than before!
Juice tip-off: Send in your song requests early, because karaoke favorites like The Killers, Bon Jovi or The Cranberries are on a first come, first reserved basis!

TUESDAY
The testing ground between BOO or BENTA: Open Mic Night: Stand Up Comedy Tuesdays at Tomato Kick
Step into the comedians’ battlefield every Tuesday night at Tomato Kick, where you get to be the judge behind their arsenal of jokes! The witty comebacks, degrading insults, and downright rash display of stupidity will surely crack you up! And if not, hey, well it’s a free show, folks.
Juice tip-off: Tomato Kick is the perfect study venue! If Starbucks is too crowded, head on over for a hefty serving of tofu fajitas and cheese quesadillas to power your brain cells. And the best part? They’ve got free wifi!

WEDNESDAY
The girls’ night out: ‘80s Groove Wednesdays at Bond

For all those who miss groovin' to cherry pop music, Madonna's top 20, and, of course, Prince. Come in your legwarmers and neon bangles too, 'cause you'll never know what 80's surprise awaits you!
Juice tip-off: Grey Goose bottles are a ‘poppin every Wednesday, so treat your barkada out to some swanky drinks and cocktails for only P250!

THURSDAY
Like a good, ol’ frat party: Thunder Thursdays at Elements Gastrolounge

A wild mix of beer pong, crazy electro music, and a whole lot of good fun. Like a cross between a frat party and cocktail hour, this new installation at Greenbelt 3 is definitely seeing more drunken early mornings than ever before.
Juice tip-off: Practicing your aim might be good for you, because losers pay the bill AND get extra-sloshed in every beer-pong showdown!

FRIDAY
I love high school girls because I get older, and they stay the same age: Fiamma Fresh Fridays

It’s Fiamma. That’s pretty self-explanatory.
Juice tip-off: Table reservations are the only way to go, unless you want to wade around in a crowd full of bouncy twenty-somethings.

SATURDAY
The old reliable: Saturcray at Il Ponticello

Ponti has been the end-all and be-all of party nights for the past four generations of high school and college graduates—just because finding someone you know in the crowd is definitely bound to happen! Boasting an all-new interior with the same lovable drink menu, Saturdays at Ponti are as wild as ever!
Juice tip-off: If the blue Azurri shakers are taking their toll, sit back and relax with their signature lychee martinis!

SUNDAY
Sunday Rastafari: Irie Sundays at B Side, The Collective

A beer, friends, and a sound trip that's strictly dub, ska, reggae, and roots, there's no reason to miss out on the high emotions and peaceful vibrations—you know you're ushering in the week the right way. Rock along with artists like Indio i, Pasta Groove, Likkle Mai, Tropical Depression, and Goodleaf—the perfect soundtrack for winding down and chilling out.
Juice tip-off: Care for a jam? Some Irie Sundays are open jam sessions to keep all the good vibes going! Bring along your talent and make some sweet, sweet music till the break of dawn!

22. Beer Me, Bro: Best Beer Import

For the ladies: Hitachino White Ale
Brewed in the Kiuchi Brewery in Naka, Japan, this light and fruity white ale (P295) is just the thing to put you in a good mood. At 5.5% ABV, it’ll give you just the right buzz to carry on a night of partying. We must admit, part of the charm of this beer is its packaging, but that’s just the hook, once you’ve tasted Hitachino, it’s a life-long affair.

For the men-folk: Arrogant Bastard
Yup, it tastes the way it sounds. This strong American ale (P280) is quite the arrogant bastard (excuse our French) and for good reason: it boasts an intense flavor and, at 7.2% ABV, is not for the weak-hearted. After one of these, we won’t be surprised if you start growing some chest hair.
Juice tip-off: Both of these craft beers and more like them are available at Craft!

23. Beer’s Cheap but the Music’s Good: The Proj3cts

That chill hole-in-the-wall hangout for college students, nothing fancy or contrived. Jam the night away and enjoy true-blue comfort food goodness in the company of fellow music fans!
Juice tip-off: Their Seafood Rice (P90) and the Grilled Squid (P185) are both made of win.

24. Raise the Roof (Deck) – Best New Rooftop Bar: Skye Lounge

Being chi-chi in the city has never felt so good at the top of the world. Skye Lounge in the Fort is not only decked out to the nines, it also gives an entirely new meaning to drinking under the moon and the stars! This rooftop sensation will definitely take your breath away.
Juice tip-off: Grab a cocktail and snatch a couch on the balcony—the breathtaking view of Taguig against the night sky will give you an evening that you'll never forget!

25. Manila’s New Watering Holes

Great pulutan for your barkada inuman: Citizen Pub and Burger Bar
What looks like a New York-style apartment right in the middle of City Golf is actually one of the city's newest breed of after-hour drinking holes that are too good to pass up. Its laid-back vibe, smoky lights, and to-die-for burgers are just the right ingredients for one epic inuman. So when it’s time for a good old-fashioned chow down and some lager with friends, Citizen is the place you want be at.
Juice tip-off: Citizen's Crazy Burger with wasabi-mayo and crabmeat (P185) is the perfect match to a marathon beer sesh. In fact, all their burgers are big on juiciness and flavor!

Get your drank on before you get your mack on: Relik Tapas Bar and Lounge
“Wanna get out of here?” Whisper that in someone’s ear and take them to Relik—a nice little niche hidden somewhere in Taguig, where the lights are low and the chances of being spotted are zero to none. For a late-night swig of some Double Black, cool music and an atmosphere that will make her swoon, this hidden gem is definitely off the beaten track!
Juice tip-off: Relik’s back room is the coziest place in the bar. Try snagging the corner couch for some alone time!

Drink up, you dirty hipster: Big Bad Wolf
Located at the ground floor of the Fort’s Fairway Towers, this quirky little restaurant serves up some deliciously offbeat dishes imbued with Filipino flare, like their Goat Cheese and Chorizo Rolls, a one-two punch in terms of flavor and texture, or their Santol-smoked Pork Belly, which is the perfect marriage of sweet, sour and salty. Big Bad Wolf’s homey ambience and kitschy flare makes it feel more like you’re hanging out at a friend’s apartment rather than a restaurant, making it the perfect setting for a laid-back night with friends.
Juice tip-off: If you're feeling frisky, grab one of the board games the restaurant's got stocked like Snakes 'n Ladders or Monopoly, and let your competitive side shine. They also do Buy-One-Take-One specials on selected liquors five days of the week.

27. Ladies Lounge: Salon De Ning

More than just a night out with the girls
Reminiscent of Shanghai in the 1930s, Salon De Ning brings class and sophistication to Manila’s club scene. Inspired by Shanghai’s celebrated socialite, Madam Ning, the club is designed in a way that each of its five themed rooms give you a look inside her lifestyle. Put your dance shoes on, grab cocktails with your girlfriends, and let your snazzy self shine.
Juice tip-off:The "Ning Sling" is a combination of Absolut Mandarin and lychee liqueur, garnished with mint leaves and a lychee, to make a sweet yet surprisingly refreshing cocktail for the ladies.

28. Battle of the Pubs: DRAFT VS. CRAFT

Draft Gastropub
Draft Gastropub serves a good selection of the Euro beer standards like Guinness, Stella Artois, and Hoegaarden on tap. A great place for a round of pints with old college friends or officemates!
Juice tip-off: We can’t get enough of those Angry Drunk Mussels (P590), cooked in Hoegaarden beer, bacon, chili, onion, and parsley.

Craft Pub & Grill
Craft Pub & Grill may look like your typical American diner-styled bar, serving tried and tested bar chow such as Buffalo Style Wings (P185) and Chili Con Carne Nachos (P365), but underneath that seemingly regular facade, you can treat yourself and your lucky friends to a fine range of American Craft beers procured for you by Global Beer Exchange’s Jim Araneta. On some days, they have beer tastings and beer pairings too.
Juice tip-off: Check out http://www.juice.ph/buhaypinoy/features/the-beer-necessities to make the most of your Craft beer experience.
