Upon his death, Alexander McQueen became an adjective to describe the act of making a statement of the fashionable kind. Allow us to illustrate with examples the definition of the word “McQueenesque”.

British fashion designer Alexander McQueen is one of the fashion industry's most brilliant. Forward-pushing in the most revolutionary of ways, McQueen gave fashion a rebel of sorts with his controversial runway shows, wild theatrics (he once mooned his audience), and, of course, produced the well-crafted and pioneering avant-garde pieces.

Earlier this year, the 40-year old designer was found dead in his London pad in what was reported as an apparent suicide. The international fashion industry mourned its loss, but at the same time it celebrated the visionary's legacy, with parties and exhibits in his honor, as well as an outpouring of tribute articles and books. While Alexander McQueen will always be missed, his legend definitely lives on in the McQueenesque pieces that now abound on the streets and in the shops the world over.

Fall 2009 was one of Mcqueen's unforgettable shows. Dark and sexy, the collection saw a dramatic interplay of black and white, leather and fabric, masculine and feminine. Kind of like a corporate female boss gone psycho.

The Fall 2009 collection also featured over-the-top headgears - from plastic bags, little umbrellas, and our favorite, a black plastic twig-like skeleton worn over the head, which sort of reminded me of Beijing's Bird's Nest stadium.

Intricate reptile designs digitally printed unto the pieces were the theme for Mcqueen's Spring 2010 collection. Personally, this is one of my favorite Mcqueen collections ever. A part of me just died after seeing this dress and knowing that I could never afford one!

This year's fall collection are all about rich fabrics and patterns reminiscent of the medieval era. While looking through this collection my mom walked by and went all Robin Givhan on me, telling me, "It's all so kurtina-like."

McQueen's shows are also known for their statement-making accessories and, in the Fall 2010 collection, the jewelry didn’t fall short of awe-inspiring. Big, interesting jewelry also works as great conversation pieces, doubling as awkward-silence-breakers at parties. The guy could be, like, "Hey, nice necklace" and you'd be, like, "Thanks, I got it from India (or some other exotic place)" and the next thing you know you're both making out.
