The Philippines: FLYING HIGH

Posted on July 30, 2012 by Spanky Hizon Enriquez
Prior to the current "It's More Fun in the Philippines" tourism campaign, I always thought that this was the best ever commercial for our country; this ad was launched in the afterglow of the EDSA Revolution in 1986, so there's really a deeper resonance to the elegant beauty of this TVC.

PAL went into a tailspin after that decade -- not literally, thankfully -- but now, I'm lovin' that our National Carrier is flying high once again, and will soon be flying non-stop to New York, Toronto, and Paris!

I'm loving this even more, because I still have free flight benefits. Woot!

But if you're not so inclined to fly Trans-Pacific, Cross-Continental, and Trans-Atlantic, there's so much to enjoy right here. So much to be proud of. So much to celebrate...

Discovery Shores in Boracay has been named the #1 Hotel Spa in all of Asia by Travel and Leisure magazine. Even better for this Station 1 landmark? It's been named as #5 among the Top 100 Hotels in the World -- and Discovery Shores has been honored as the #2 Asian Resort.

If you're into simpler, more rustic pleasures, paradise is everywhere in the Philippines. Biking on Bantayan Island, for instance.

Not too long ago, one of my memes for the DOT's campaign was selected to be part of its official worldwide commercial.

I've never been prouder to be Pinoy. And Capampangan! "Stargazing", of course, refers to Pampanga's Parols :)

You can't say you've toured the Philippines until you've been to Tagaytay! Check out EYP's list of the Top 12 Things to Do When in Tagaytay.

And very recently, the City Council of Angeles City passed a resolution to start a campaign to bring Disney to Clark. After all, with a first class airport, world class infrastructure, and vast lands, why not bring Mickey, Donald, and Co. to Pampanga's "Affiest Flace Hon Hearth!"

Why not? After all, as PNoy said a couple of weeks ago: "Impossible is now possible!"
