Must-see Movie: Project X

Posted on July 27, 2012 by Mikael Daez

Director: Nima Nourizadeh
Actors: Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper, Jonathan Daniel Brown

Epic. That's the one word that I'd use to pretty much sum up how great this movie is. You know that infectious feeling of restlessness that you get when you see people having so much fun? This is exactly what this movie does to you. It just throws everything crazy, fun, and wild right at your face and forces you to enjoy everything. To me, it felt very similar to Entourage. It's just so effective in selling the fun that the characters are having that it feels good just watching it.

However, towards the end of the movie, it did a good job of toning everything down and bringing me back down to earth which is something that Entourage did not have. I was on a high in the middle of the movie but that eventually simmered down at the end. I think the director did a great job of controlling the feel of the whole film.

What can you expect from watching this film? Just a whole lot of fun! Gorgeous girls, insane antics, a party you've probably never experienced -- it's fantasy in way but loads of fun nevertheless! As a bonus, I'd say the soundtrack was kick-ass!

PS. This is not a true story so do not try to imitate what you see on the film.

Movie comparisons:

The Hangover series
I have to admit that I loved the Hangover 2 but I would have to say that Project X is a completely different animal! The feeling that you get from Hangover 2 is comical more than anything else. In Project X, it kind of inspires you to go out and have a good time!

Superbad

Again, they are very different movies! Superbad had a lot of charm and different kinds of comic appeal! Not to mention a lot of people could somehow relate to them in different levels. Project X is less relatable and more "I want to experience that" in my opinion.

Any real life comparisons?
I'm easy to please so any party with all my friends is bound to leave me with an amazing high! Proof? Here is Hong Kong last weekend with my friends.

Oh yeah! It's not difficult to see we were having a blast? I don't really remember what part of the night this was taken but I imagine that Levels by Avicii was playing and we all just went wild! #ProjectXEveryNight.

Favorite scenes:

1) THE WHOLE PARTY SCENE! That's around half the movie though.

Here is the trailer but I'm already telling you that it does not do justice to the movie. If the movie is 10/10, then this trailer is a 2/10. It doesn't really capture the feel and fun of the actual movie.
