Filipino films are usually scarce outside of Cinemalaya and the Metro Manila Film Festival but the second half of this year is looking good for Philippine cinema.
Just One Summer starring Elmo Magalona and Julie Anne San Jose is a romantic comedy for teenagers that also tackles a few family issues that most of us can relate to. I got so kilig and cried a couple of times. Beautiful cinematography and lighting, too!

I'm really excited to see Captive. Directed by Brillante Mendoza, it's based on the true story of rebels kidnapping a group of people in Palawan. It stars French actress Isabelle Huppert, Sid Lucero, and Angel Aquino. Release date: September 5.
Not another Rizal movie. Supremo is about Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, and Macario Sakay. Release date: unknown.
I Do Bidoo Bidoo is a musical based on the songs of Apo Hiking Society. It stars Sam Concepcion and newcomer Tippy Dos Santos. Anything with Eugene Domingo and I'm sold! Release date: August 29.
I saw this trailer while watching Just One Summer and I was so amazed! This looks FANTASTIC! Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles by GMA Films deviates from the usual look of local movies. Release date: October 17.
