Mysterious Diseases: Igan D'Bayan at Pocket Universe Art Collective

Posted on July 27, 2012 by Kate Santos
The grand launch of Pocket Universe Art Collective (PUAC) is a showcase of Igan D'Bayan's latest show called, "Mysterious Diseases". The gallery is transformed into a dark room filled with equally dark images.

The portraits appeared to be partially in decay. They looked like a mix of zombies, with a touch of Francis Bacon. The X-ray images in the light box reminded me of the movie Alien, that scene where the alien bursts out of John Hurt's chest. There's also a skeleton in a cage, but I'm not quite sure what creature it belongs to. Dark as it is, this is a display of a genius.

If you're more of a photographer than a painter, then you might want to check out the Top 12 Cameras of the Moment.

D'Bayan draws inspiration from movies such as Dead Snow and Taxideremia, Bizarre and Rue Morgue magazines, as well as a “really sick clinical atlas of dermatology” by a Filipino doctor.

The opening night included music from The Black Vomits, Turbo Goth, Noli and the Tangeres.
