12 Dishes to Satisfy Your Rainy Day Cravings

Posted on May 28, 2012 by Kate Santos
Summer is pretty much over and when the rain starts to pour, we can't help but turn to comfort food to make us feel better. So, in keeping with the weather, we've put together a list of our rainy day favorites, as well as some newcomers, that will satisfy your most intense rainy day cravings.

1. 1521

The My, My, My Mais (P115 - P350) is a hearty soup of fresh hand-chopped white corn, pork, shrimp and bitter gourd leaves that'll surely warm you up. The soup is very creamy and tastes close to a Chinese version of the Crab and Corn Soup we all grew up with as kids.

The Tan Tan Men (P380) is no longer a secret. While they used to serve just 10 bowls per evening, this nutty miso-based noodle soup is now being served up to 20 bowls per night. Be sure to order this with a side of the delicious Aji Tamago, a Japanese soft boiled egg marinated in soy sauce, mirin and sake.

Juice tip-off: If you want to be sure you'll get that steamy bowl of Tan Tan Men for dinner, the restaurant opens at 5:30 pm. You'll probably be the first customer for dinner!

3. Angus Beef Tapa Lady in Mercato Centrale

Are you a fan of eating breakfast food at any time of the day? The ABTL serves up one of the best tapsilog (P120) in town.  It's cooked to order and the fatty, tender meat will keep you wanting more. If you can't wait for the market, you can also call to order at 0917 814 6124.

Juice tip-off: The tapsilog comes in other flavors like Spicy Beef Tapa (P150), Korean BBQ Beef (P150) and Beef Teriyaki (P150). Be sure to try them all!

We can't get enough of this hole-in-the-wall discovery! Order a bowl of the Katsudon (P200): a steaming rice bowl topped with a juicy pork cutlet, fluffy egg with onion, and garnished with pickled ginger. It also comes with a bowl of miso soup and some vegetables so it's sure to fill you up nicely.

Hungover or not, this TexMex joint now serves brunch.  Go for a Breakfast Burrito Bowl (P295) filled with Mexican rice, refried beans, black beans, eggs with sour cream, chorizo, queso, bacon, salsa and pico de gallo. Be sure to grab some sauce from the chili wall to give your meal a kick. While you're at it, order one of the breakfast cocktails to complete your meal.

Juice tip-off: Save lots of room for dessert! The Capirotada (P195) is a traditional Mexican bread pudding topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with Cajeta, a Mexican milk caramel that's to die for.

Not only does this place serve hand-tossed pizzas and make their own pasta, but they created a dessert that will surely satisfy your sweet tooth, too. The Nutella Soup (P350) is a bowl made out of pizza dough with a giant pool of creamy Nutella in the middle, sprinkled with crunchy nuts to add texture.

The restaurant may have changed their interiors but the food here is still yummy. Warm up to an order of Tomato Cheese Fondue (P950-P1500), because who doesn't love a pot of melty Gruyere cheese flavored with tomatoes? It's the perfect meal you can have with a glass of wine. Don't forget the burnt cheese bits at the bottom of the pot, that's the best part of the dish.

8. 2nd's

Was there a time when you couldn't choose between a burger or eggs Benedict? 2nd's solved that problem by combining both into one tasty dish: The Benedict Burger (P575). It's a sirloin burger topped with a slice of SPAM, a fried egg and Hollandaise sauce. This dish is the true meaning of brunch.

Craving for a slice of NY?  Head over to Bonifacio High Street Central and snatch up the Wild Mushroom Walnut Blue pizza (P250). It's a wonderful marriage of the earthy mushroom combined with  sharp blue cheese and walnuts. It's so good you'll forget it's vegetarian!

The former chef of C's Italian Dining in Pampanga is now closer to home, serving up Italian favorites in Paco, Manila. Try their Risotto Pesce e Carciofi (P590), a creamy Italian-style rice with fresh snapper fillet, artichoke and herbs.

Juice tip-off: Chef Chris currently has a Half & Half Panizza promo available daily until June 30, 2012. This promo can be applied to dine in or take out orders.

11. Draft

If you're looking for the perfect pub grub on a rainy day, the Pork Fennel Sausage on Mashed Potatoes (P380) will fill you up nicely. Be sure to soak up the onion gravy with the sausage and mash, it's a match made in heaven! Order a pint or two of Draft's imported beers on tap to complete the pub experience.

The Cake Club is not just a dessert place, they also have a selection of savory dishes as well. Spice things up with Sato San's Mentaiko Spaghetti (P370), a cream-based pasta dish of spicy cod roe and dried seaweed. It's like the Japanese version of your favorite carbonara, with a bit of a kick.

What are your favorite dishes to eat on a rainy day?
