The P-Noy Rises

Posted on July 26, 2012 by Spanky Hizon Enriquez
The two best things I watched the past few days: The Dark Knight Rises and the State of the Nation Address.

Some may quibble and some may nitpick, but I for one believe that both TDKR and the SONA had to be long: they needed to be.

Heroic epics are not supposed to be brief. Much needs to be said, many need to be saved.

After all, in comparison, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's SONA speeches, one in particular (with less than two thousand words) were the equivalent of Joel Schumacher's Batman movies: shallow cartoons.

PNoy's SONA was a high-flying speech that could have been written by Christopher Nolan for Gotham and its battered citizens ---

That gigantic flag of the Philippines affects me on a very deep, intrinsic level.

And as I saw its majesty unfurl at the Batasang Pambansa this week, I believed, as do most of our fellow Filipinos, that, finally, after a long, oppressive, depressing, and dark night, we are finally on the right track as a nation.

The government is now online! EYP lists 13 government websites that you should use and take note of.

The impossible, is now indeed, very possible.

Thank you, Mr. President.

I've been an unabashed fan of the President even before he was drafted to run for office in the wake of his mother's passing.

But what really is heartening are the voices of others who may not necessarily have believed in PNoy's programs, but have, over the past two years, thanks to the manifestations and the sweet fruit borne from all the anti-corruption seeds planted, PNoy has already gained a victory, with and for the people.

Once again, we are optimistic. Once more, we believe.

Let's hear it from Facebook:

Deng:

"Good job, President Aquino. The fact that the International Community has expressed their confidence in the Philippines' economy is further proof of your leadership."

Patrick:

"The past two years have simply been outstanding and the global community is taking great interest with his leadership. No wonder why China sees him as a Wise, Honest, Industrious and Magnificent President! Onwards and upwards!!!"

Antonio:

"I used to be a critic of PNoy, but I am one with him now, especially after knowing that the economy is growing pa rin under his watch, that is very important to me. So yeah, it's the best time to be Filipino. I am one with PNoy, I am one with the Filipinos!!!"

Edwin:

"Sa totoo lang hindi ko binoto si PNoy pero SALUDO ako sa yo! Noon naiinggit ako sa Singapore naawa ako sa pinas, ngayon ikaw ang leader na matagal ko na hinahanap, pinapangarap para sa bansang Pilipinas! Applause. :))"

Pompeyo:

"As a fourteen-year-old Atenean, Noynoy was already low profile. Today as the President, he is still low profile even when he is looking forward. When he graduated from HS, he received a standing ovation very much like what he got after his SONA address. Such is a striking parallel."

Oh, and finally, for the nattering nabobs of negativity? These discredited cynics and desperate comedians? You're in denial.

Be happy for your country and all its people, instead of desperately trying to pull us down with discredited, boring, self-serving pessimism.

We're moving on, and we're moving fast.

Join us, or get out of the effin' way, okay?
