The JULY Issues: Rating this month's cover girls

Posted on July 12, 2012 by Spanky Hizon Enriquez
Gentlemen, start your engines.

Here's the latest crop of magazines that should, or must find their way into your homes and thrones - - - Presenting the cover girls of July 2012!

First up, Iza Calzado in the magazine I've taken to calling "the best damn magazine in the country." Rogue never disappoints.

If I were to just present one publication to the rest of the world, the one periodical that I feel best represents the best of the Philippines?

No contest. Rogue wins it hands down. The covers are always eye catching; the spreads inside, even more captivating. And the columns and articles? World class.

This month, Ramon Ang talks about rebuilding Philippine Airlines. Teddy Boy Locsin writes about his Twitter fixation. And a scoop: "The Invisible Life of Henry Sy". How can you beat that line-up?

Esquire Philippines gets it right this month with this cover that reduced me to mouthing unintelligible one syllable sounds when I first spotted it.

I have a piece of unsolicited advice for the excellent editorial team of this franchise: more Georgina, less John Lloyd. More Bianca Gonzales, less Manny V. Pangilinan.

I'm almost certain your sales figures will validate my suggestion.

Oh, and I really really miss Diana Zubiri. Love her. Hint. Hint!

FHM Philippines pales in comparison compared to the two mags above. What's happening to this, supposedly the top selling glossy in the land?

I think Jackie Rice is a beauty, but come on, this generic concept isn't doing her any favors. Her appearance in the July 2009 issue of the late, lamented Maxim Philippines was much more compelling.

Oh, FHM? Again, some unsolicited advice. Two words: Diana Zubiri.

Playboy Philippines' "granddaddy of 'em all" reputation will be further reinforced by their July cover girl - - - didn't Juliana Palermo peak, like, 5 years ago?!

Well here's a bonus: most men wouldn't be caught dead with a copy of Yes! but this month's special issue promises pulchritude. Anne Curtis pouting? YES!

And since we're on the topic of beautiful views, here's something extra -- a set of pictures generously posted on her Facebook account; photos that promote the intoxicating gorgeousness of our country's coastline. Indeed, it's more fun here.

Thank you so much for these, Cristine Reyes!
