RANT or RAVE: Oh, The Places You'll Go (or Not)
Posted on August 17, 2012 by Saab Magalona
Now’s your chance to
RAVE about that melts-in-your-mouth cheese pizza from that cozy restaurant or
RANT about what may have been, God forbid, a stray pubic hair in your burger from that seemingly spotless place. Thanks to
Electronic Yellow Pages or EYP.ph, you're free to tell the public how you feel about your favorite and not so favorite hang-out spots!
I want to share my personal rants and raves:
Fully Booked, Bonifacio High Street. For a bookworm like myself, this is heaven in Manila. It’s clean, spacious, nicely lit, diverse, and well stocked.

Cafeccino by Dome, Eastwood. I hold all my meetings here! The food is so delicious (order the beef belly!) and the ambience is too sophisticated for rowdy teenagers to bother you and your clients. Plus, there’s free unlimited and fast wifi for their customers.

Yabu, SM Megamall. Aside from the beautiful interior, it’s the katsu that keeps you coming back for more! Try the very tender katsu and the unlimited cabbage. They’re opening a new branch at Robinsons Magnolia on August 22. Yay!

Digital Walker, Eastwood. This is the place I get most of my gadgets! The staff is so friendly and with their stock, it's like a wonderland for a techie like me!
Blowout Bar Manila, Rada St., Makati. No cuts, no colors, just blowouts! Their menu consists of cutesy named blowouts according to your needs. Try the Flirtini (their signature blowout), Long Island (sleek & straight), Malibu Rum (beachy waves), or Cherry Bombshell (curly). I got a mix of the Flirtini and Malibu Rum.

A.K.A. Oh, The Places You'll Not Go.
Blue Skies, Katipunan. My friends and I have recently taken a liking to playing LAN multiplayer game Lord of The Rings: Battle for Middle Earth. It’s so much fun that the two times I’ve played it were not less than 5 hours straight. I know what you’re thinking – is Saab a high school boy?! Not quite, I haven’t played DoTA yet. Anyway, Blue Skies on Katipunan has been around since I was in high school so it gets respect, but oh my goodness it is falling apart! I don’t expect much from a computer shop but at least 30% of their computers weren’t working so my friends and I couldn’t sit beside each other and “strategize” (nerd). It’s so unnecessarily dirty, I want to clean it. Although, I don't know any other place that has this LOTR game. Help!

Burgoo, Podium. I will just quote somebody dear to me, "Mozarella sticks that tasted 2 days old and buffalo wings that may as well have soared straight to the trash."

Pasto, Eastwood. I will never forget the time I ate there with my parents years ago, and I am not kidding, I actually saw a big rat INSIDE the cake fridge. Yes, the place where the customers can see their dessert display. I’ve never gone back since.

Mr. Jones, Greenbelt. I ate here only ONCE and it was such a bad experience. The menu was cute and interesting but the food and service were so mediocre. One thing I couldn’t stand was when we ordered a classic old school banana split and they served teaspoon-like proportions of flavors that weren’t even chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. The banana was so small and it wasn’t on a banana split boat. I understand if they were going for a modern twist kind of thing but don’t falsely advertise by calling it a classic.

B-Side/The Collective (Malugay St., Makati). I used to go to B-Side all the time until I realized I looked forward to going home whenever I was there. It's always too hot and when it rains, you're either stranded because of the open ceiling or because of the easily flooded streets of Malugay. The events are great but security is so lax, someone almost always loses a phone or a wallet.
