Geek Mode: ON!
Posted on July 05, 2012 by Mikael Daez
Everybody has an inner geek in them that other people don't really know about. For myself, I think I have a powerful aura of geekiness that was at its peak during my teenage years (when I should have been out partying and exploring). Anyway, here is a rundown of some of the geekiest things I have ever done.
1. Played DOTA for 12 hours straight!
A new
gaming cafe along Katipunan opened up along with a
promo that allowed us to play 12 hours for just 100 pesos! (The normal rate was Php30/hour.) Anyway, my friends and I couldn't resist and we had to get in on the fun. We started a bit before dinner and ended our life-threatening (it's true!) marathon as the sun slowly rose the next day. All in all, I had munched through a whole box of
Yellow Cab Pizza, a liter of Tropicana and a few chocolate milk drinks. It was an awesome experience but we never managed to do it again.
I was in 2nd year high school when I was given a free CD of Ragnarok Online. I immediately started playing and it was love from that points onwards. I had become addicted to the game and did nothing more than sit down and attack those darn Poring! I was actually a beta tester when I started but eventually became one of the higher-leveled players by the time the game became a hit. Eventually, other players started buying items and accounts for cash and I was able to sell mine for 1500 pesos! Considering my weekly allowance at that time was around 300 pesos, I felt great about the deal. Making money out of my gaming addiction was great!
3. Played through the whole Pokemon Red/Blue version in one sitting
I had just downloaded an emulator for the
Gameboy and installed it on my
PC. Pokemon was the first game I played and I was so happy that I was playing a Gameboy game on a computer that I ended up finishing it that same night. Of course it did help that I could speed up the game by a factor of 10 but it was satisfying nonetheless.
4. I used to draw Nintendo characters instead of going on school field trips
I was an anti-social kid back in the day. I hated being out of the house and always made myself late for field trips. In one field trip I hid in the bathroom until the bus left and just drew Super Mario on an
art book. It was what I would do before I got addicted to sports and computers. I realize though that I drew better when I was younger than I do now! :P
5. I downloaded and watched the whole Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT shows
This could quite probably be my all-time favorite cartoon/anime! I just loved this series and didn't skip on the chance to finally watch everything from start to finish when it came out on the Internet. That's over 500+ episodes combined and I enjoyed every minute of it. Up to now, I still have hopes that someone continues the
franchise but I am happy that it is still alive and kicking. I also watched the movies but not all of them. :P
