Viggo Mortensen has always made brave choices of integrity, even before LOTR. And as a fan, I am glad that LOTR has not sold his soul out to the mundane seduction of commercial Hollywood. The ROAD is one such choice. It is bleak and melancholy in its vision of an earth destroyed by man's ravages. But its portrayal is lyrical, actually poetic. It is the disaster movie 2012 could have been if more intelligent people made that CGI rubbish. The most amazing thing is that the sadness and despair of the film pulls you in in such a thoughtful and deliberate manner that, despite all the gray, you will not be bored. Instead, it is moving, a very intimate narrative of love and hope. If Oscar 2011 were held today, Viggo would be up there. Fantastic!
