The 1st Bigshot Film Festival: Modern Heroes

Synopsis:

SM Cinema has officially named the three full-length films that comprise the lineup of the 1st Bigshot Film Festival.

“Balang Araw” by Archie Dimaculangan of University of the Philippines-Diliman.
A call center agent, an expectant mother, a working student, and a neophyte robber - all dream of better lives.  They are all drawn together by a petty crime at a convenience store which excalates and ultimately examines their notion of heroism and self preservation.

“Suntok sa Buwan” by Bianca Catbagan and Jono De Rivera, also from UP-Diliman.
Two boxers, one young and talented and the other aged yet passionate, prepare against each other in the bout that will define their lives.  When a boy with everything to lose faces a man with nothing to lose in the ring, who will win the fight?

“Tahanan” by Kryzzie Syfu from the De La Salle University.
Samantha Benitez,a college student, goes on a journey to find inner peace in the company of orphaned children.  As a young heart encounters different stories of hardships, twelve children teach Sam a great deal about love, courage and family.

"Endo"
Leo is used to the temporary. Typical of many young Filipinos, he earns a living for himself and his family by hopping from one contractual job to the next – in fast food, grocery, and department stores. His relationships with women are similarly fleeting. When he meets the spirited dreamer Tanya, he is suddenly faced by the promise of a better future, but he doesn’t seem equipped to handle it.

"Cine Sine"
The Philippines’ leading documentary filmmaker, Nick Deocampo, embarks on another groundbreaking work with CINE/SINE: Spanish Beginnings of Philippine Cinema, the country’s first full-length documentary in 3D animation combined with movie excerpts.  It recreates the origin of motion pictures in the country. Featured in the documentary are elements of Spanish culture found in Filipino films as evidenced through the classic films made by three National Artists Eddie Romero, Lino Brocka and Ishmael Bernal.  A landmark work about Philippine cinema and history.

Director: Archie Dimaculangan | Bianca Catbagan and Jono De Rivera | Kryzzie Syfu
